Age Suitability: None Specified

One of the biggest arena attractions in rock music, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra (TSO), will once again take to the road this holiday season.

Established in 1996 by producer/composer/lyricist Paul O’Neill, TSO has been a true rock mega-success, both on record and the concert stage. The band’s four CD releases, including the holiday-themed Christmas Eve & Other Stories (1996), The Christmas Attic (1998) and The Lost Christmas Eve (2004) have sold more than 5,000,000 units, over 900,000 in 2006 alone. TSO’s 2001 DVD release, The Ghost of Christmas Eve, also achieved platinum status.

$1 from every ticket sold goes to the Empty Stocking Fund.

Not as hokie as I thought it would be...

Attended the 8 p.m. show last night (Wednesday, November 4th) and I must say, was much better than I expected. Very entertaining, highly talented musicians, laser lights, pyrotechnics, dancers, singers...you name it. Of course it was more of a rock show than an orchestra - I saw the previews for the show and knew what to expect. I am also a child of the 80's, and fan of the hair bands and drama that comes with them - so it was right up my alley. I loved the violinist! Very high energy! The show was 3 hours long and I particularly enjoyed the last hour. This was a show - meant to entertain - and it did just that in my book! I would recommend it to anyone who has an interest and hasn't seen it. I probably won't become an avid, annual follower though - as seeing it once is probably enough for me - but I did enjoy it, particularly the company I was with.

Really a rock concert not an orchestra!

Our family went to the 3:30 show on Wednesday, Nov. 4 in hopes of seeing an "orchestra" and enjoying the wonders that other people have talked about. We were all very disappointed. The 3 electric guitars always drowned out the beautiful string instruments. The very short solos by wonderful musicians such as the flute and violin players were very brief. Boring story-telling by a man with a wonderful voice. Nice singing and acting by a man who played the "bum" - but it went on and and on and on. The guitaristsand vocalists thought so highly of themselves that they had to "ask for praise" from the audience by lifting their hands - rather than actually performing so well that the praise came naturally. All-in-all a BIG disapointment. Don't go unless you just really like electric guitar rock solos.

Tomorrow evening will be the ninth time I have seen this show. Each year they add some new feature that keeps it fresh and of course the subject is timeless.
The amazing talent and passion they play with comes through each time I see them. I would highly recommend to all to see them. They touch on the spirit of the season and give joy and hope that someday we may all live in peace.
