The Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission will receive an update on plans for Cheyenne Mountain State Park when the Commission meets in Colorado Springs on Thursday, Dec. 6 and Friday, Dec. 7.

On Thursday morning, the Commissioners will tour Cheyenne Mountain… Show more State Park, which opened in 2006 in cooperation with Great Outdoors Colorado and the City of Colorado Springs. At 3:30 p.m., Park Manager Mitch Martin is scheduled to present the draft 2013 park management plan for Commission consideration. The plan includes future improvements in the park as well as plans for the 1,021-acre "Top of the Mountain" section.

Thursday's agenda also includes a briefing for the Commission on the need for new fishing regulations for the River's Edge Natural Area Ponds in Loveland. The ponds will open soon to public fishing and are adjacent to the popular Jayhawker Ponds. Commissioners will also receive an update on the Colorado Parks and Wildlife boating program.

On Friday, the Commission will convene at 8:30 a.m. to review several big game herd management plans and receive a staff update on the Wetland Habitat Conservation Program. The Commission is scheduled to adjourn at 11 a.m.

The Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission sets regulations and policies for Colorado's state parks and wildlife programs. The Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission meets monthly and travels to communities around the state to facilitate public participation in its processes. The commission is scheduled to travel to Denver, Greeley, Alamosa, Grand Junction, Walden, Gunnison, Trinidad, Steamboat Springs, Montrose, Lamar and Pueblo in 2013.
