About the Millibo Art Theatre - Affectionately known by locals as the MAT it is in its eleventh season of creating and producing original theatre for the Colorado Springs area. The MAT was founded in 2001 as the Manitou Art Theatre by Jim Jackson and Birgitta De Pree under the umbrella of the Business of Art Center. It moved in 2008 to its own 90 seat venue at 1367 Pecan Street on the Westside of Colorado Springs. In 2011 the name was changed to the Millibo Art Theatre in honor of two MAT performers who passed away that year – Bo Frese and Millie Harrison. Beginning June 1, 2013 the MAT will move to a newly renovated 120 seat venue at 1626 S. Tejon St. in the Ivywild Redevelopment. The expansion will allow for bigger productions and more space for the developing MAT Theatre School.
