Workshop to raise awareness of suicide warning signs and prevention

Colorado Springs has the second highest suicide rate in the United States, only after Las Vegas, Nevada. In an effort to raise awareness of suicide warning signs and prevention, The Independence Center will host a workshop on February 28th to help employers and those in the social service field identify early signs of depression so the appropriate measures can be taken.

The workshop will be held Thursday, February 28th from 9:00am – 10:30am at the East Community Fund Room in the Tim Gill Center… Show more (315 East Costilla Street). The event is free and open to the public.

“Too often we doubt our own ability to impact someone’s life,” said Amanda Lunday, Communication Manager at The Independence Center. “What we are trying to relay is that by communicating your concerns, you are not going to put the idea of suicide into someone’s head, but you can come alongside someone and possibly save a life just by being there. The single most important thing someone can do to help someone deal with depression and suicidal thoughts is to be there, listen and care.”
