Transition Manitou is a local effort to create a better, healthier local culture, one that fosters a deep and increased sense of community and connection. The main objective is to drastically cut the carbon footprint of Manitou and build ‘resilience’ into the Manitou community through “relocalizing” its resource base. Relocalization affects all aspects of a community: food, transportation, energy access, local economy, and job base.

"The Story of Stuff" is a 20-minute, fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and consumption patterns, with a special focus on the United States. This movie exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues and calls for all of us to create a more sustainable and just world. It'll teach you something, make you laugh and it may just change the way you look at all the stuff in your life forever.

There will also be a finger food potluck and gift exchange. You are welcome to bring small to medium-size items and re-gift them as a way to begin anew. So bring your jewelry, that instrument you never play, maybe a shirt or two or that hand-crank blender from your grandma's garage and kick the holiday season off sustainably!
