The Mona Lisa Fondue Restaurant in Manitou Springs is one of those date places where, when you make a reservation, the host is likely to ask if it is a special occasion.
We went to the Mona Lisa expecting a nice fondue meal. What we got was less than enjoyable. The salads were fine. Nothing much, but acceptable. The cheese course was also acceptable. The entree course is where things went bad. We were a bit surprised when the waitress brought out a grill for our table. She proceeded to tell us that we should probably cook all of our meats at once since there was olive oil on the grill and it would tend to cook off and make the food stick if we didn't follow those directions. We all got smoke in our eyes and the smell of grilled food permeated our clothing when we left. What happened to actually fonduing the food? Very disappointing to say the least. The chocolate course was fine - at least it was back to fondue. I have to say the service was less than stellar also. We had been finished for some time with no sign of our waitress. One of our party got up to use the restroom and found our waitress chatting it up with one of the other workers. They informed the waitress that we were ready for our check so she came to the table and told us that she had been on her way when she bumped into another member of our party. Not true! Again, very disappointing and not very professional. For the $40 per person price tag I would strongly suggest going somewhere else (Nearly anywhere else) for an enjoyable meal.
